Educational seminar for Project of Year set
CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Township Community Chest will hold an educational seminar Sept. 15 to tell residents and businesses about the 2015 Project of the Year.
Bruce Mazzoni, treasurer of the community chest, said Wednesday the event will be held at the Butler County Community College. There will be a morning and afternoon session for anyone interested.
The Project of the Year centers around a $500,000 initiative to recruit and retain more volunteer firefighters in the county.
The initiative includes $130,000 for an emergency trailer that will be used for training and educational purposes.
It also includes money that will be used to establish scholarships at the community college, scholarships that will be given to students who make a two-year commitment to serving their local volunteer fire departments.
Mazzoni said officials with the community chest are soliciting and getting donations from all aspects of the community. The fund currently sits at $191,342 and will increase soon because Fun Fore All in Cranberry Township is donating $1 for every round of minigolf played until the end of August.
The informational session on Sept. 15 will be held in Butler, but officials are also scheduling one to be held in Cranberry later in September.
“These are basically for businesses and residents who want to be more involved in the project,” Mazzoni said. “People can help in a variety of different ways.”
Mazzoni urged people to visit the community chest’s website at www.ctcchest.org to donate or to learn more about the project.
