Brotherhood Memorial Ride returns
ZELIENOPLE — The borough fire department will have its fifth annual Brotherhood Memorial Ride on Sunday.
Registration will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the fire department, 615 W. Beaver St. The ride will leave at 11:15 a.m.
The cost is $20 per motorcycle, and $10 per passenger. The ride is about 80 miles with the halfway point near Grove City.
With good weather, department officials hope to get more than 300 people to participate, organizer Josh Rader said.
Last year’s ride raised about $6,000, he said.
Proceeds benefit the Brotherhood Memorial Fund, which was established last year for military and emergency personnel. A committee of department members will vote on how to distribute the funds.
Last year, money was donated to the family of Ray Delfosse, an EMT with Harmony EMS who died unexpectedly.
In the past, a portion of the proceeds also has gone to the fundraising effort to build a memorial skate park in the Zelienople Community Park. The park is planned in honor of Trevor Barkley, Sam Bucci and Elijah Lunsford, three young men who died in a crash in 2010.
The department has partnered with Friends of the Park to have a lunch and concert in the park following the ride, which is expected to end about 2 to 3 p.m.
The event in the park will include a performance by Scott Blasey, Rob James and Greg Joseph of The Clarks.
