John Nicholas Lasichak
John Nicholas Lasichak, 66, of Butler passed away Wednesday in the VNA Hospice with his loving family by his side.
He was the son of the late Pete and Nellie (Miskol) Lasichak.
He was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and was a lifelong Butler resident.
John entered the work force immediately after graduating from Butler High School. He worked at Armco Steel/AK Steel from 1966 to 2001. He worked many positions during his career at Armco/AK, most of them in the Melt Shop.
John took a three-year leave from Armco when he enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969. He attended many schools while in the Army, including Heavy Equipment Mechanic school in the United States and 7th Army NCO Academy in Germany, graduating top of his class. He became a demolition expert while in Germany. John went to Vietnam as a combat engineer and was a squad leader. He was honorably discharged as a buck sergeant.
John was a car enthusiast. He favored classic cars, winning many trophies in car shows. He was skilled and talented on the computer, as well as in the garden and yard. There wasn't a job he couldn't do. He was a natural problem solver.
After retirement, John took up golf and developed a love of the game. He enjoyed kayaking, fishing, bowling, and collecting trains. He was a Steelers fan and enjoyed watching sports on TV. He especially loved vacationing in Florida at The Villages with his wife. He very much enjoyed spending time with the family and looked forward to all the many family get-togethers. John was a loved and respected father, brother and friend to many.
John was the cherished husband of Karin A. (O'Sullivan) Lasichak, who survives. They celebrated 44 years of marriage in October.
He is also survived by his daughter, Michelle, and her husband, John Michael Sheptak, of Chicora; his son, John N. Lasichak Jr., and his wife, Colleen, of West Sunbury, and his sisters, Bertha (John) Povlick and Margie (Gordon) Stetzer, both of Butler. John was “PopPop” to his granddaughters, Victoria Lutz of Butler, and Kayla Lasichak, Emily Lasichak, Lexi Lasichak, and great-granddaughter, Melody Elizabeth Miano, all of West Sunbury. He is also survived by his numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Lasichak Stanley.

Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.
