Edward M. “ET” Thompson, 65, of 11816 Country Club Road, Waynesboro, passed away April 5 in his home with his family by his side.

Born on April 7, 1948, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Edward M. Thompson Sr. and Edna M. (Easley) Thompson. He was also raised by his uncle and aunt who he considered to be parents, the late Clarence and Eleanor Schnur.

He graduated from Butler High School with the Class of 1966. He later continued his education by attending Butler County Community College, and following his military service, he graduated from Slippery Rock University with a Bachelor of Science in accounting.

ET served with the U.S. Army from December 1966 until September 1969, serving in the Vietnam War.

He and his wife, Joanne C. (Shockey) Thompson, were married on May 26, 2001, in The Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro.

ET worked for the Department of Defense, starting with Housing and Urban Development, and later worked in security for Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement in 2003.

He was a member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, and the William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, all in Waynesboro.

ET was an avid fisherman and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also enjoyed golf, coin collecting and old cars, especially Corvettes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Deborah Thompson and her fiance, Stuart Dougherty, of Hagerstown, Md., Denise Swain and her husband, Jeff, of Chambersburg and Jennifer Johnson and her husband, Dwayne, of Greencastle; his three stepchildren, Kathy Sanders and her husband, Brent, of Waynesboro, Jeff Stepler and his wife, Lisa, of Waynesboro and Steven Stepler and his wife, Amy, of Waynesboro; his 15 grandchildren; and his two great-grandchildren.
