West Sunbury sweeps double dip vs. Valley

West Sunbury’s Aaron Marterella pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run and striking out two in a 4-2 win over Valley in the first game of a Butler County legion baseball doubleheader on Sunday.

Trevor Shaffer singled, scored twice and drove in a run while Zack Adamson singled and scored once.

In the second game, Shaffer walked and stole second in the bottom of the ninth inning before coming home on Zack Jewart’s base hit in a 1-0 victory. It was Jewart’s second hit of the game.

Austin Blauser was the winning pitcher, striking out two and walking one while giving up a pair of hits in five innings.

Meridian 8, Valley 6 — Ryan Denny singled, doubled, scored once and drove in three runs to lead this win on Saturday.

Adam Knauer added three singles and two runs and Tony Cillo two singles and two runs while collecting an RBI.

Denny also earned the win on the mound with six innings pitched and Andrew Hartzell got the save.

Center Township 7, Kiski 2 — Devin Fitz had two singles, a double and one RBI for the victors.

Chris Fiorina contributed a single and two runs batted in and Alex Hoehn a single and RBI.

Pat Byrd pitched a complete game for the win.
