Holly Wolfe

Ansu Benjamin and Joshua Croup will be two of the commencement speakers Tuesday at the Butler High School commencement ceremony. They participated in tryouts to speak on the commencement theme “As We Go On.”

Ansu is the daughter of John and Suja Benjamin of Butler. She is an honor student with distinction — achieving a 4.3 or higher grade point average — a member of the Junior Classical League, the National Honor Society, Student Council and National Latin Honors Society. She plans to attend Duquesne University as a biology/pre-med major.

Joshua is the son of William and Deborah Croup of Butler. He was drum major in the Golden Tornado Marching Band, percussionist in the Tornado Big Band, a member of the pit orchestra for the thespian musical and a member of Tornado Television. He plans to attend Point Park University and major in broadcast journalism.

———NEW YORK — Teresa Leatherow of Cranberry Township is one of 50 young women nationwide selected as an ANNpower Fellow for her leadership potential and commitment to creating positive social change.She will participate in the ANNpower Vital Voices Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. There she will have leadership training and mentorship and will meet internationally renowned women leaders. She will return tasked with creating a project that will affect positive social change.Teresa is a junior at Seneca Valley High School.<BR/><BR/><BR/><BR/><BR/><BR/>

———NATRONA HEIGHTS — Students from St. Joseph High School received awards at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science state meeting.Holly Wolfe, a sophomore from Sarver, captured first place. Claire Preston and Jacob Surkosky, sophomores from Butler, each took a second place.
