Roofer, 18, accused of burglary

He had been on job just 1 day

CRANBERRY TWP — With just one day under his belt, a roofer was arrested Tuesday after he used a vent hole to break into a house while on the job, authorities said.

The homeowner was taking a nap at her house in Coventry Court about 11:30 a.m. when she heard someone on the work crew yell that he needed to use the bathroom, Cranberry Township police.

She got up and noticed 18-year-old Dylan Huchko in her dining room, looking through drawers and cabinets.

The woman confronted the intruder, who told her he was “looking for the bathroom,” according to court documents.

Huchko of Carnegie in Allegheny County claimed he had gotten inside through an unlocked back door. But the woman checked the door and found that it was still locked.

Police later spoke to the roofing company supervisor, who discovered the defendant had gotten into the house through a vent hole cut into the plywood after the roof was replaced, documents said.

Two other roofers told police they saw Huchko ease into the vent hole and enter the house.

At his arraignment, the teenager told District Judge Sue Haggerty that he had been employed by the roofing company for one day.

Huchko was arraigned on charges of burglary, trespass, theft and attempted theft. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail, following arraignment.
