Grove City ArtWorks drawing notice

GROVE CITY — The Grove City ArtWorks, only open for a few months, is attracting attention.

“It’s growing as the word gets out,” said Alex DeGroff, a Grove City Arts Council board member.

Board member Marianne DiQuatro agreed: “It has exploded.”

The building is located at 222 S. Broad St.

The council had sought an arts space since 2011. Last year, the Hazy family decided to buy the building and lease it to the council.

The grand opening in February brought a good crowd. “It was packed,” DeGroff said.

The 2,000-square-foot building has three studios, an exhibition space and an area acting as a small “black box” theater.

“It’s definitely completely what we were hoping for,” DeGroff said.

One studio is occupied by Sarah Hempel Irani, arts council president, and the other is occupied by the Paper Sky Theatre, which DiQuatro is involved with.

A third studio is unoccupied. The rent is $180 per month.

Without the center, events were held at Beans on Broad, the nearby coffee shop, or at council members’ homes.

The studio has hours every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.

One artist per month is featured in the main room. There is a grand opening on the first Friday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m.

The council accepts donations to help pay projects. To donate, visit the council’s website at www.grovecityarts.com, e-mail the grovecityarts@gmail.com or mail a check to the Grove City Arts Council, 118 S. Center St., Grove City, PA 16127.
