Teen receives up to 23 months

A city teen, who was a high school senior when he accompanied another man on an armed burglary, was sentenced Thursday.

Donte Brandon, 19, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary and was sentenced to serve 11½ to 23 months in prison followed by two years probation.

Brandon’s defense attorney, Patrick Casey of Butler, told Butler County Judge Timothy McCune that his client was with an older man who “took the lead in these crimes.”

According to court records, Brandon and 23-year-old Zacharri W. Renick of Clearfield Township broke into a home in the 100 block of College Street, then held two women at gunpoint for about 20 minutes.

Eventually, a friend of the two residents knocked on the front door, according to court documents. One of the women opened it and told the friend she was being held at gunpoint.

The intruders then fled.

Renick in February pleaded guilty to committing two burglaries, including the one with Brandon, and a felony theft. He is serving 4 to 10 years in state prison.
