Monthly bike nights set to begin May 14
Motorcycle and car enthusiasts, and others interested in having fun for charity, are invited to the Saeler-Solkovy monthly bike night from 6 to 9 p.m. May 14 at the Huddle Lounge, 507 W. Cunningham St.
The bike nights are in anticipation of the seventh annual Saeler-Solkovy Memorial Poker Run at 9 a.m. Aug. 16 at Rock Ann Haven, 141 Greenwood Drive.
Ride founder Dan Saeler said proceeds from the bike nights and memorial run this year will go to the family of Avery Sue Cooper, a 1-year-old Butler girl with a rare chromosome disorder, to offset hospital costs. Cooper has spent most of her life in Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Saeler organized the first ride in 2008 to cover funeral costs after his brother, Steve, died. That same year, Saeler’s friend, John Solkovy, died unexpectedly on Christmas.
“John said I had to have a second annual one because he couldn’t make it to the first one,” Saeler said. “Little did he know, he was the second year’s (honoree).”
Saeler has kept the event going, dedicating each year’s earnings to a young person in need. Last year, attendees raised $35,000 for Elizabeth Shannon, after her husband, Zack, died of cystic fibrosis.
Bike nights are from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Huddle Lounge. Admission is free with food and drinks available. Their dates are: May 14, June 11, July 9, Aug. 13, and Aug. 16, which is the Memorial Poker Run.
