Principal will retire June 30

Bliss to leave Dassa McKinney

CHERRY TWP — The Moniteau School Board Monday night accepted the retirement of Dolores Bliss, principal of Dassa McKinney Elementary School, effective June 30.

Bliss has been a principal in the school district for 16 years. She had been the principal of Washington Elementary School. When it closed, she moved to Dassa McKinney.

“It’s been an honor to serve this community,” said Bliss. “I really enjoyed working with the students and staff.”

Board member Joann Duke said, “Mrs. Bliss is probably one of the most professional and well-educated individuals that we have ever had.”

Board member Douglas Kimmey commented on the positive impact she has had on students.

Superintendent George Svolos said, “She’s a great administrator and principal. She’s very kid centered.”

He added, “She’s been a valuable asset to the district.”

The board also approved an increase in school lunch prices for the 2014-2015 school year. Elementary lunches will increase from $1.70 to $1.80. High school lunches will increase from $1.95 to $2.05.

Jennifer Zellefrow, director of food service, said adjustments are calculated according to a formula in federal regulations for school lunch programs. The calculations take into account inflation and new meal plan requirements for 2014-2015.

In other action, the board:

• Approved new stage curtains for $20,352.

• Approved replacement of the stage flooring for $16,950.

• Approved the new school district Web domain name of www.moniteau.edu and the new school district e-mail of @moniteau.edu.

The addresses are shorter than those in use now. The date for implementation was not announced.

• Approved Wade Vogan as the new varsity football coach for the 2014-2015 school year.

Vogan will add coaching to his responsibilities as high school guidance counselor.

He replaces Cecil Blauser who served one year as head coach.
