Carlow University

Carlow University is a private, Catholic, masters comprehensive university offering excellent professional and liberal arts programs.

Listed among the top 20 best-bang-for-the-buck private colleges by Washington Monthly, Carlow offers more than 50 academic programs that challenge students to think critically and creatively.

Transferring to Carlow is seamless, with up to 88 credits accepted from other institutions, and its three locations at Oakland, Cranberry Township and Greensburg make a Carlow education just a short drive from home or work.

With an 11-to-1, student-to-faculty ratio, students have the opportunity to work with our faculty experts in a student-centered learning environment, both on campus and around the world through the many study abroad options available.

Eighty-four percent of Carlow’s graduates are employed or in graduate school within one year of graduating.

The College of Arts and Sciences consists of the Division of Humanities, the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and the School for Social Change. The College of Professional Studies is composed of the School of Management, the School of Nursing, and the School of Education.

Both colleges offer advanced study, which can lead to advanced degrees in their field of study.

Carlow’s graduate school has graduate programs that award masters degrees in business, counseling, creative writing, education, fraud and forensics, and nursing, and offers two professional doctoral programs, the Psy. D. degree in counseling psychology and the D.N.P. degree in nursing.

For adult learners at all of its locations, Carlow offers classes in the highly popular Carlow Accelerated Program (CAP) format. Classes are offered one night a week, three hours a night for eight weeks.

This allows two, eight-week sessions in a semester, giving students the opportunity to double the number of credits they can take.

At Carlow, students can take volunteerism to a new level, exercise their civic responsibility, and increase their understanding of social issues and problems by working on various service-learning projects. This individualized learning helps you develop professional and personal leadership skills and prepares you for a lifetime of service.

Carlow’s campus is a lively place with a broad range of programs and services designed to help students pursue cocurricular interests and develop their leadership skills. Students are challenged to immerse themselves in the campus community by joining a student organization of interest to them, writing for one of the student publications, participating in athletics or wellness programs, joining a community outreach program, or becoming part of the Student Government Association.

Carlow is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the United States Collegiate Athletics Association (USCAA), which provides opportunities for postseason competition and national recognition for athletic and academic achievements.

The Carlow Celtic athletic teams consistently rank in the nation’s top 25 for outstanding grade-point averages, and have had continued success on the field, as well.

And coming this fall is men’s basketball.

Carlow University’s main campus overlooks Oakland, the collegiate heart of Pittsburgh, and the region’s academic, cultural, and medical center. Carlow’s private, 17-acre self-enclosed campus features seven tranquil gardens, a residence hall, waterfall, and several art installations.
