SRU track posts 21 qualifiers
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Slippery Rock University men’s track and field team posted 21 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and one NCAA provisional Mark at the Shamrock Invitational, which concluded Saturday.
Seneca Valley graduate Hunter Williams was one of the standouts for The Rock, placing seventh with a time of 48.52 seconds in the 400-meter dash. He also ran the 200-meter dash in 22.06 seconds.
Moniteau graduate Victor Santoyo cleared 1.90 meters in the high jump to finish seventh.
Women’s Track and FieldSlippery Rock High graduate Bre Northcott led all SRU throwers with PSAC marks in all three events she entered at the Shamrock Invitational.Northcott threw the hammer 40.33 meters, the discus 39.42 meters and the shot put 11.90 meters.Butler graduate Ava Bonetti led The Rock with a throw of 12.54 in the shot and 39.86 in the discus.
Field HockeyErin Wilcox scored four goals, but The Rock squandered a late lead in a 17-16 overtime loss to Shepherd University Saturday.Shepherd used a 6-2 run to force overtime.Chynna Chan also added three goals and an assist for The Rock (3-2).
BaseballSlippery Rock High grad and Grove City College senior third baseman Matt Corner had a two-run single to key a 4-1 win for the Wolverines in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of Thiel College in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon.Grove City (4-7, 2-0) rallied for a 6-4 win in the nightcap.
