Clearfield Township man gets 4 to 10 years in prison
A repeat burglar who attributed his crimes to a “strong crystal meth addiction” will spend 4 to 10 years in state prison.
Zacharri W. Renick, 23, of Clearfield Township pleaded guilty to committing two burglaries and a felony theft.
“I’m sorry for what I did,” Renick said Thursday while being sentenced by Butler County Judge William Shaffer.
Renick allegedly broke into a home in the 100 block of College Street, then held two women, who he did not know, at gunpoint for about 20 minutes.
Eventually, a friend of the two residents knocked on the front door, according to court documents. One of the women opened it and told the friend that she was being held at gunpoint.
Renick and another intruder allegedly fled just before police arrived. But in his getaway, Renick dropped his gun, a loaded semi-automatic pistol. Police recovered the gun, which authorities believe Renick had stolen from his uncle.
The man accused of being Renick’s accomplice in that case, 18-year-old Donte A. Brandon, still faces burglary charges.
In the other two cases, Renick reportedly took more than a half dozen guns from the homes of his grandmother and uncle while they were away.
One of the weapons, according to court records, was used in the city burglary.
In addition to the prison time, Renick was ordered to pay $1,000 in fines and a total of $4,100 in restitution for the stolen guns.
