Vo-tech students place first at district event
NEW CASTLE — Several Butler County Vocational-Technical School students placed in the Skills-USA District 10 competition Jan. 17 at the New Castle School of Trades.
Thirteen vo-tech schools make up District 10, and students who placed first in the region will compete in the state competition in April in Hershey.
Julie Worst, a culinary arts student from the Butler School District placed first in restaurant services.
Samantha Hempfling, of Slippery Rock, Connor Harvey of Butler, Juston Kolarich of Seneca Valley, and Edwin Craig of Karns City, all building construction students, placed first in the team works competition.
Jacquelyn Baptiste, a culinary arts student from the Moniteau School District, placed first in commercial baking.
Joshua Carr, a carpentry student from Knoch High School, placed first in cabinetmaking.
Jordan Mazzanti, a cosmetology student from Butler, placed first in the cosmetology contest.
Elizabeth Pisarcik, a culinary arts student from Mars, placed first in the culinary arts competition.
Nathan Huffman, a protective services student from the Seneca Valley School District, received first place in the fire fighting competition.
Sean Howley, also a protective services student from Seneca Valley, got first place in the first aid/CPR competition.
Matthew Napierkowski, a Mars graphic arts student, placed first in the advertising design competition.
Amber Mueller of Knoch and Abby Fountain of Slippery Rock, both cosmetology students, got first place in nail care.
Butler vo-tech students Tori Nicolazzo, Nick Snyder, Brandon Powell, Philip Chips, Tyler Kaufman, James Fleming and Kaylee Rutkowski also placed in contests at the regional SkillsUSA competition.
