Final OK given to Lemieux Sports Complex

CRANBERRY TWP — Township supervisors have given final approval to the proposed UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Updated plans call for the two ice rinks to be stationed on the northern side of the 183,000-square-foot building, along with a 50-space private parking lot for Penguins’ players and team officials.

There will be a small park outside of the complex, near the entrance to the ice rinks, and the property also will feature a roundabout for traffic and bicycles complete with a large pond and other landscaping amenities.

Officials estimated last year that the project would cost around $70 million and would open sometime in 2015.
