Crystal Chilcott was one of two winners in the Florida Weekly annual Writing Challenge. Her story was one of 145 entries. She was rewarded with a ticket to the four-day Sanibel Island Writers Conference.
Chilcott is an English major with a creative writing minor at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, where she is a junior.
She also is a competitive figure skater at the World Arena Ice Hall, an Olympic training center. She recently medaled at the 2013 U.S. Collegiate National Figure Skating Championships in Green Bay, Wis.
Chilcott is a 2011 graduate of Butler High School and the daughter of Don and Shirley Chilcott of Butler.

Knoch middle and high school students recently participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 5 honors choir at Westminster College. Their auditions included a song in English and a song in Latin.
The high school students were Lucy Knappenberger and Jodi Rafalko, soprano 1; Katie Gannon, soprano 2; Maeve Berry and Alison Schemrich, alto 1; Jordan Luntz, alto 2; David Brooks, tenor 1; and Hunter McDonald, bass 2.
The following students were chosen to participate in the PMEA district 5 junior high and high school district choral festivals to be held in January:
High school: Maeve Berry, Katie Gannon, Justin Hawk, Lucy Knappenberger, Jordan Luntz, Hunter McDonald and Jodi Rafalko
Ninth grade: Addy Albert, Maggie Blair, David Brooks, Cole Coddington and Aidan Neigh
Seventh and eighth grade: Gracie Cornetti, Cody Duke, Chalee Durand, Dietrich Kaltenhauser and Celia Knappenberger.
