BC3 shows off new school at old Brockway glass site

BROCKWAY, Jefferson County — Butler County Community College on Friday unveiled its new 14,000 square foot facility.

Almost 100 people attended the open house of BC3 @ Brockway, including state senators Joe Scarnati and Scott Hutchison, BC3 officials board members and community members.

Scarnati, a Brockway native, said the facility is the first community college in the state to open north of Interstate 80. The school, which has 50 students, is open to people in Clarion, Clearfield, Elk and Jefferson counties.

“It was a great day, certainly another milestone in BC3 history,” said Nick Neupauer, BC3 President.

The two-story building, which was previously the administrative building for Brockway Glass, includes classrooms; a biology, anatomy and geology lab; a conference room; student lounges and an outdoor patio.

The facility was opened for the fall semester on Aug. 26.

The college’s operating budget is provided through a renewable $500,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Associate degrees available at BC3 @ Brockway are business management, early childhood education, general studies, pre-nursing, psychology and social work.

During an open house Thursday night, more than 150 people toured the facility. BC3 received 29 applications that evening.

Students have been able to take classes at BC3 @Brockway for the past four years through online classes and at a temporary facility.

Aside from its main campus in Butler Township, BC3 has facilities at Linden Pointe in Mercer County, Lawrence Crossing in Lawrence County and Cranberry Township.

Brockway is about 80 miles northeast of Butler.
