BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Symphony Orchestra opens its 65th season Saturday with “Opening Night.”

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.

Cellist Edward Arron is the guest artist. Music director and conductor Matthew Kraemer will present a pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m.

The Art of Horror will return Friday for its eighth year in the Underground Gallery at The Art Center, 344 S. Butler Public Library and the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home will sponsor a concert from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 13 in the library courtyard, 218 N. McKean St.The free concert, called “Music in the Courtyard” will feature two bands: Christie Kecskemephy and Gary Kleemann from the Mahoney Band and the TMG Jazztette performing easy rock, oldies and jazz.Apple cider, coffee and pumpkin cookies will be served.

GROVE CITY — Esther the Musical” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 and at 3 p.m. Oct. 13 at Tower Presbyterian Church, 248 S. Broad St.This live performance, in its ninth production, was created and is directed by Christian composer Jeannie Allen of Valencia.The musical features 18 original songs, a cast of 26, period costuming and the retelling of the Biblical story of Esther's heroic effort to thwart a plan to destroy the Hebrews.Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and free for children younger than 12.Visit www.theesthermusical.com.

Butler County Civil War Roundtable will sponsor its third annual Downtown Butler Ghost Walk at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26.This 60-minute event will begin in Butler's Diamond Park across from the Butler County Courthouse.The guided walking tour will include Diamond Park and the adjacent Main Street business district. Ghost stories from Butler's historic past to be discussed include Sam Mohawk, The Biddle Boys/Mrs. Soffel, The Headless Man, Chinese Laundry Murder, and the Phantom Civil War Regiment, among others.All children younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.Cost is $10.
