Artists vie for the prize
One of these three Butler County artists could bring home up to $200,000 from the ArtPrize competition going on in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Accepted entries include those of Dennis Keyes, above left, for his photo painting “OMG;” Bill Secunda, right, for his metal sculpture “In My Soul,” and Tom Panei, above right, for his pastel mural “Sacrifice.”
The artists rolled out their work last week so area residents could get a peek before the competition started.
Secunda has been in the money in the ArtPrize contest before. In 2009, 2010 and 2011, he brought home $7,000 each time.
This year's contest continues through Oct. 6. The public will vote to select the winning piece with a top prize of $200,000. A juried competition has a top prize of $100,000. In all, prizes total more than $500,000.The contest is exhibiting about 1,500 entries spread over 169 venues in three square miles in Michigan.More information about the contest is available at www.artprize.org.<br></br><br></br><br></br>
