Knoch golfers win big

Knoch’s boys golf team won for the second time in as many matches, defeating Kiski Area 195-215 Thursday at Saxon Golf Course.

Ben Thoma paced the victory by shooting a 37.

Kiski Area (215): Tyler Paunovich 34, Brian Veitch 41, Ryan Sciullo 44, Connor Smotzer 47, Paul Zanotti 49

Knoch (195): Ben Thoma 37, Christian Evanchec 39, Chris Kier 39, Devin Campbell 39, Logan Hickey 41

• Mars edged Seneca Valley by a 205-207 margin at Cranberry Highlands. The Planets and Raiders’ top three golfers turned in identical scores, but Mars prevailed thanks to Nick Hardt’s 43 and Brandon Ford’s 44.

Seneca Valley (0-2) returns to action Monday against Shaler at Pheasant Ridge.

• Slippery Rock placed second in the District 10, Region 3 match at Oakview Golf Club. Zac McCue had the best score for the Rockets with an 80. Slippery Rock and Warren both totaled 326 strokes, but the former was awarded second place thanks to a fifth-place tie-breaker.

Grove City was fourth, led by Matt Gordon’s 81.
