Butler graduate crowned Miss Pa.

Annie Rosellini, Miss Pennsylvania
She will compete for Miss America title

PITTSBURGH — Annie Rosellini of Butler was crowned Miss Pennsylvania 2013 Saturday, state pageant officials announced.

Jaime Ann “Annie” Rosellini, 21, will represent Pennsylvania in September at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City. The final night of competition and the crowning of a new Miss America on Sept. 15 will be broadcast live on ABC TV.

“I’m over the world with absolute joy. I’m really, really looking forward to my year and making it about service, and I’m looking forward to Miss America as well,” said Rosellini this morning.

The 2010 Butler High School graduate, who just finished her sophomore year at Point Park University in Pittsburgh where she is majoring in public relations, won a $5,000 scholarship with the title.

“That’s what’s really unique about the Miss America organization,” she said. “It is the largest provider of scholarships for young women in this country.”

Rosellini said she will take a year off from school to attend to her duties as Miss Pennsylvania by making appearances across the state and preparing for the Miss America competition.

She will make the first appearance of her reign in Scranton on Wednesday.

Rosellini was one of 34 contestants entered the Miss Pennsylvania Pageant at the Hillman Center for the Performing Arts at Shady Side Academy.

Her pageant talent is performing a lyrical dance to Carol Woods’ version of the Beatles’ song “Let It Be.”

Her pageant platform is “Heart Disease Awareness and Prevention for Our Future,” a subject of special significance to her.

She is the daughter of Lucy Ann “Lou Ann” and the late Jaime V. Rosellini of Butler. Her father, the president of Dental Systems Inc. and Brothers Inc., died in 2010.

Lou Ann Rosellini said, “My husband passed away due to heart disease.

“That was her platform. She started working for the American Heart Association that summer,” said her mother. “We both volunteered for the Heart Ball. In 2012, she was spokeswoman for Open Your Heart. She helped create a Facebook donation page where people could donate online.”

Lou Ann Rosellini said the page raised $54,000 in 2012.

“We also work the Jaime Rosellini Memorial 5K Race/Walk which will be July 19 this year at Butler County Community College,” Lou Ann said.

Her daughter said, “I chose the platform because I have been working with the American Heart Association Butler chapter.”

This was the third time Rosellini vied for the Miss Pennsylvania crown. In 2011 she entered as Miss Steel Valley, and in 2012 she competed as Miss Butler County. She entered this year after being crowned Miss Greater Juniata Valley in February.

Rosellini said she will focus her efforts on getting ready for the Miss America competition.

“There are 52 girls total, counting Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.,” she said. “I’m going to into it with an open mindset and represent Pennsylvania to the best of my ability, and then it’s in God’s hands, you could say.”

The current Miss Butler County, Caroline Collins, finished second runner-up in Saturday’s Miss Pennsylvania pageant.

Collins, 19, is the daughter of Robert and Linda Collins of West Middlesex. She is a sophomore at Point Park University.
