Amanda Hardt of Mars earned a Capstone Award for Advertising and Public Relations at Marietta College. Hardt is a graduate of Mars High School.

Jessica Lenoir, Mars native and biochemistry student at Hiram College, recently received the President’s Achievement Award, one of the highest honors at Hiram.
The award honors two juniors who demonstrate growth in academic achievement and in personal development and have displayed sensitivity to the needs of their fellow students, to those in the college community and of society in general.
Lenoir will serve as vice president for administration in the Student Senate for the 2013-14 academic year. She has been a peer tutor, a writer for the student online newspaper and a teaching assistant. She is a violinist for the Hiram Orchestra and an accompanist for the Chamber Singers. She has a minor in biomedical humanities.

Alex Brydon of Slippery Rock and Melissa Mason and Alexandra Mientus, both of Sarver, were inducted into the Saint Vincent College chapter of Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society.

Ashley Groner from Cranberry High School received a 2013 Good Neighbor Scholarship of $1,000 from Central Electric Cooperative of Parker.
She will attend Gannon University this fall in the physician’s assistant/nursing program. She also was a 2012 CEC Youth Tour student.

Zachary Bredl, Alexis Brockaway and Katherine Miller of Seneca Valley High School and Jacob Dufford of Mars High School received 2013 CHAMBER Educational Foundation Scholarships. The scholarships were presented by THE CHAMBER of Commerce, the Chamber Educational Foundation and Alcoa Foundation.
The topic for this year’s Scholarship Essay Contest was “What life experiences have led you to choose your educational path and ultimate career goal, and how will this enable you to contribute to your community?”

Gabby Swartz, Elam Pyle, Emily Vajda, Kenneth Bickel and Alexis Vajda of Moraine Elementary School had the highest points in their grade in the accelerated reading program for the 2012-13 school year. Fifty students were recognized as outstanding readers.
The program is sponsored by the Portersville–Prospect Rotary Club in conjunction with Moraine Elementary School.
