Reed claims medal at states

Butler High senior Travis Reed placed sixth in the Class AAA boys discus Friday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.

Reed’s effort of 160 feet, 2 inches was 7 feet, 7 inches better than his throw of 152-5 at last week’s WPIAL meet.

• Seneca Valley’s Jonathan Dorogy ran a school-record time of 10.68 seconds in the 100-meter dash preliminary round. The next fastest time Friday was 10.76 turned in by Niager Mathis of District 12’s Swenson Arts High School. The semifinals and finals were scheduled to be held Saturday.

In Class AAA girls action, Mars’ Lydia Dennis earned a medal by placing eighth in the long jump (17-11).

Boys TennisMars’ doubles duo of Josh Raymundo and Aaron Gruber fell in the quarterfinal round of the PIAA Class AA tournament Friday in Hershey.The team was defeated 6-1, 5-7, 2-6 by Lancaster Country Day’s Spencer Rhoads and Wes Davis.Earlier in the day, Raymundo and Gruber picked up a first-round win over Loyalsock’s Caleb Vuocolo and Mark Odorizzi (6-1, 6-1).
