A knack for computer programming earned Casey Fischer, a senior at Knoch High School, a $1,000 “Investing in Our Future” scholarship from eSchoolView, a website development company.
Her display and explanation of her robotics project led to the award. Casey plans to study computer programming at Carnegie Mellon University.
Knoch High School senior Joseph Hutchinson, a Web developer with real world work experience, also earned a $1,000 “Investing in Our Future”scholarship from eSchoolView.
He received the award for his programming club website that will be used by the students. Joseph will attend Penn State Behrend and is deciding between studying computer science, electrical engineering or chemical engineering.
Nationally, only eight scholarships were awarded.

Because of his essay on how Pennsylvania's “Rule of Capture” laws are unfair to landowners and damaging to the environment, Slippery Rock High School senior Garrett Jones will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Garrett won the scholarship from the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association. He is currently ranked No. 1 in his graduating class.
He intends to pursue a degree in mathematics at Slippery Rock University.
———Sarah Francino of Renfrew was selected for the Summer Muskie Fellows program at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio. She will participate in an ongoing field study of a more blight-resistant hybrid type of chestnut trees at a reclaimed surface coal mine in Dresden, Ohio.———Jefferson Ford, an eighth grader at Butler Junior High School, placed 10th among the top 100 students in a statewide Geography Bee on April 5 in Gettysburg. He is the son of Doug and Mary Ford of Butler.———Brandon DaLonzo of Cranberry Township presented a research project as part of Muskingum University's Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Week in April. His project was “The Perception of Food Appeal: Plate Color and Garnish.”———Slippery Rock University named its Presidential Scholars. University's Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society:Taylor Kriley of Butler is a speech-language pathology major.Whitney McMullen of Cranberry Township is a student in the College of Fine Arts.Dylan Weyand of Butler is a finance major.———Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni recently awarded scholarships to students who have health and medical college majors and who are children and grandchildren of members.The following students are from Butler and listed with their field of study: Seth Cook, nursing; Joshua DiPippa, chiropractic; Nolan Fox, nurse practitioner; Kaelee Franko, psychology; and Alexander Slomer, athletic training.The four other recipients are Katherine Baker of Claremont, N.H., nursing; Jill Lampe of Downington, Chester County, nursing; Sarah Slater of Clarks Mills, Mercer County, speech pathology and audiology; and Ariana Tribby of Blythe, Calif., orthopedic surgery.
