Part of Turnpike will be closed
CRANBERRY TWP — The Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed in both directions, from 11:59 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday, between the New Castle Interchange (Exit 10) and Cranberry Interchange (Exit 28).
The closure is necessary to remove the overhead bridge beams at milepost 22.6, where Wallace City Road (State Route 989) crosses over the Turnpike in New Sewickley, Beaver County.
Exiting traffic will use these 44-mile detours:
Eastbound traffic, exiting at New Castle, will follow I-376 west to Route 422 east, then follow I-79 south before reentering the Turnpike at Cranberry.
Westbound traffic, exiting at Cranberry, will follow I-79 north to Route 422 west, then follow I-376 east before reentering the Turnpike at New Castle.
Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting travelers at the interchanges during the closure. PennDOT also is warning drivers to expect more traffic on detour roads during the closure.
Message boards will inform customers of the closure, as will Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts at station 1640 AM.
Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions and other circumstances.
