Butler PoliceTuesday — Police charged Shawn P. Horstman, 38, of Butler with two counts of bad checks stemming from a pair of bogus checks written on his credit union account in Butler. The account, according to a police report, had insufficient funds in it.The checks for $475 and $290 were issued Jan. 4 and Feb. 4 to a Valencia business.

Butler Twp. PoliceWednesday — Police charged Jeffrey S. Snyder, 51, of Lyndora with drunken driving stemming from an 11:16 a.m. March 12 traffic stop on Hansen Avenue. In addition to driving under the influence, Snyder is charged with careless driving and a stop sign violation.6:53 a.m. Tuesday — A pickup truck driven by Ruth Rodgers, 72, of Butler struck a deer on Evans City Road. Rodgers was not injured but her damaged pickup had to be towed away.

Butler County Drug Task ForceWednesday — William G. Kress, 61, was arraigned on felony and misdemeanor drug charges stemming from an alleged marijuana grow operation that officers uncovered March 11 at his home in Middlesex Township.Officers seized nine marijuana plants, dried marijuana, grow lights, timers and other cultivating material during a warrant search at his Sheldon Road home, according to a task force report.Kress is charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned on charges and released on his own recognizance.

State Police, Butler8:50 a.m. Wednesday — Lee N. Lookenhouse, 31, of Butler was hurt when his car rear-ended another car on Route 488 at the Interstate 79 south on-ramp in Muddy Creek Township. Lookenhouse’s car, following the collision, struck a road sign.Lookenhouse, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Police said he was cited for careless driving. Jacquelyn S. McCarthy, 62, of Butler was the other driver.7:40 a.m. Wednesday — A Somerset County man was hurt when he lost control of his car and struck two parked vehicles and the Hays Service Center building on Bonniebrook Road just south of Herman Road in Summit Township. The crash happened, according to a police report, when Warren A. Beitzel, 21, of Salisbury, fell asleep at the wheel.Beitzel, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with known injuries. Police said he was cited for a lane violation.10:13 p.m. Tuesday — Howard D. Pisor, 44, of Hilliards suffered a minor injury when a sport utility vehicle’s passenger side mirror struck his left elbow as he walked on East Butler Road at Mitchell Hill Road in Summit Township.A police report noted that Pisor was walking on the road’s fog line and was wearing dark clothing when he was hit. He later went to Butler Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. The SUV driver, Zachary M. Young, 24, of Butler, stopped after the accident. No charges were filed.
