10:56 p.m. Sunday — Jeffrey E. West Jr., 32, of Butler was caught allegedly buying heroin on North Main Street. Police spotted him participate in a suspected hand-to-hand drug deal with an unknown passenger in a car.Moments later, officers stopped West. On the ground nearby police found a bundle of 10 stamp bags of suspected heroin that police believe he tried to discard. Next to that bundle was another bundle, this one containing five stamp bags.West is charged with possession of a controlled substance.

11:49 a.m. Sunday — A car driven Michael Simpson, 28, of Harmony rear-ended a sport utility vehicle stopped for a red light on New Castle Road at Hindman Road. Heather Ammon, 41, of Butler was driving the SUV.Simpson was cited for driving too closely to another vehicle.8:09 p.m. Saturday — John Dixon, 62, of Butler suffered moderate injuries when a car struck him as he walked on Route 8 south. Dixon was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian. He was listed Monday in stable condition.Police said it appeared that Dixon was walking in the northbound travel lane when a car driven by Joseph Kepple, 49, of Chicora hit him. Kepple hit his brakes but was unable to stop before hitting the pedestrian. Dixon rolled up onto the car and struck his head on the windshield.Police said the accident remains under investigation, and no charges were immediately filed.

2 a.m. Sunday — Two vehicles were vandalized on Petrolia Street in Karns City. Each vehicle had slashed tires, a smashed side-view mirror and broken windshield wipers. Police said the investigation continues.Sunday — Two Phillips portable DVD players were reported stolen from a truck in the driveway at a home on 10th Street in East Butler. The property, worth $210, was stolen between 3 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday.Friday — An unknown vandal damaged ornamental fencing in the front yard at a home in the 900 block of West Sunbury Road in Clay Township. The vandalism occurred between 1 and 10:45 a.m.March 2 — A Butler man reported that someone cut the padlock on his storage unit in Franklin Township. However, nothing was missing from the unit on Castle Ridge Road. The attempted burglary happened between Feb. 27 and March 2

3:54 p.m. Monday — John A. Picardi, 44, of Templeton was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his car sideswiped a pickup truck in Valley Township. The truck was filled with PennDOT workers who had completed their bridge-cleaning duties that day.The truck was stopped on the road's east side shoulder when Picardi lost control of his northbound car. The passenger side portion of the car struck the lug nuts on the truck's driver side wheel.

6:09 p.m. Sunday — A car driven by Jennifer A. Jones, 27, of Rimersburg was rear-ended by another car on Eighth Avenue just southwest of Boundary Street in Clarion Township. The other driver, David E. Hufnagel, 21, of Clarion, was cited for careless driving.

2:56 p.m. Monday — Michelle L. Barth, 22, of Slippery Rock was hurt when the car she was driving rear-ended another car on Sharon Mercer Road in Lackawannock Township. Barth and the other driver, Marlene V. Helm, 55, of Pittsburgh, suffered minor injuries. Both women were wearing seat belts.Barth was cited for careless driving.
