Janet “Chick” Ellenberger, 79, of Chicora had her soul released by God from its earthly home Wednesday morning to dwell with Him in Heaven for eternity.

Janet had accepted Jesus as her Savior at age 15 and tried to live for Him until He called her home.

She was born Nov. 20, 1933, at Butler Memorial Hospital to James and Daisy Rearick Milner. Her mother died in the hospital a short time following her birth. She was raised by her precious Uncle Vern Bain and Aunt Reil Rearick Bain, and was spoiled by their four children, Gilbert Bain, John Bain, Mabel Griffen and Dot Wick, and her brother and sister, Kenneth Milner and Geraldine Eaker.

Janet graduated from Butler High School in 1951 and from Bible Baptist Seminary in 1954 with a bachelor of religious education degree.

She married George D. Ellenberger on Sept. 28, 1956.

Janet taught Sunday school and children's church for many years. She also led a ladies Bible study group in her home. Over the years, she worked at Mince's Market, Montgomery Ward and Nationwide Insurance. She and her husband operated Ellenberger Nursery for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Lynda Lateau and her husband, Dave, and Laurie Powell and her husband, Rex, of Chicora; two grandchildren, Joshua Powell and his wife, Amie, and Brittany Stephenson and her husband, Aaron; three great-grandchildren, Abigail, Aiden and Jase Powell; one cousin, John Bain; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dear husband, George D. Ellenberger; one brother; one sister; and a number of cousins.

ELLENBERGER — Friends of Janet “Chick” Ellenberger, who died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.A funeral service will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Dr. Dennis Krajacic, pastor of Community Alliance Church in Butler, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Chicora.Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
