9:28 p.m. Sunday — Cristina Jo Frazzini, 18, of Butler was hurt when the car she was riding in struck a utility pole, knocking down the power lines at East Walnut and Rattigan streets. Frazzini, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Austin J. Grupp, 17, of Renfrew was driving.
Monday — Police reported they are investigating a front-desk scam at a local hotel. One patron at the hotel, the Days Inn on Route 8 south, was tricked into giving his credit card information over the telephone to someone posing as the front desk clerk.The person posing as the clerk said the hotel computer was not working Dec. 23 and needed him to verify his credit card number over the phone, police said. The victim gave the person his information. He later found an unauthorized charge of $300 had been made to his card.The unknown suspect apparently unsuccessfully tried the same ruse on other patrons at the hotel. Those other guests, police said, told the caller that they never give out personal information over the phone and they would walk down to the desk to provide the information.Sunday — Police reported they are seeking the public's help in their search for a blue, 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier involved in a hit-and-run crash last month in front of the Sheetz store on Freeport Road. The accident happened at 8:19 p.m. Dec. 5.Police said they have a lead in the case but need to find the Cavalier, which is missing a front bumper and headlight.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.3 p.m. Friday — Dean Fredly, 84, of Butler was hurt when a sport utility vehicle struck the car he was driving on Whitestown Road in front of the Lyndora Post Office. Fredly suffered a minor injury.Buster Prewitt, 54, of Julian, Centre County, was driving the SUV. Police cited him for failing to yield the right of way.Noon Friday — Two 15-year-olds were charged after a fight in the cafeteria at the Butler Intermediate High School. Both students, who police did not identify, were cited for disorderly conduct and harassment.
Jan. 2 — Police filed drunken driving charges against Karen A. Peterman, 56, of Evans City stemming from a traffic stop about 10:35 p.m. Dec. 27 on Crab Run Road. An officer made the stop after Peterman's sport utility vehicle nearly struck his cruiser on Little Creek Road, according to court documents.She admitted that she had just left the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post home and had consumed five beers, police said.Police later took Peterman to Ellwood City Hospital for a blood test. The toxicology report indicated her blood-alcohol level was 0.174, or more than double the 0.08 percent level considered intoxicated under state law.Peterman is charged with driving under the influence, careless driving, failing to keep right and disorderly conduct.
5:50 p.m. Monday — Kimberly A. Porter, 53, of Butler was hurt when she lost control of her car and crashed into a ditch on Route 422 in Summit Township. Porter, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Police said she was cited for a lane violation.6:50 p.m. Sunday — Two Cranberry Township teenagers suffered minor injuries when their car struck a utility pole along Ash Stop Road and Zoelle Lane in Forward Township. The driver, a 17-year-old boy, and his passenger, a 17-year-old girl, were treated at UPMC Passavant Cranberry.Police did not identify either occupant. The boy was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.Saturday — More than $2,200 worth of camera equipment was stolen from a Valencia woman's vehicle on Eagle Ridge Drive in Middlesex Township. The theft happened between 3 and 4 a.m.Thursday — Police charged Jeremy J. Rivera, 21, of East Butler with robbing a 16-year-old boy of $150 last summer in the parking lot of an ice cream store in Connoquenessing Township. Rivera allegedly grabbed the boy by the T-shirt during the day of July 30 outside King Cone Castle on Route 68 and demanded the youth give him the money.Rivera is charged with robbery and theft. Police did not identify the boy.10:14 a.m. Wednesday — Kaitlan P. Drum, 28, of Slippery Rock was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries after the car she crashed on ice-covered Eagle Mill Road just south of Ragan Road in Connoquenessing Township. Police said Drum, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered facial injuries.
1:15 a.m. Thursday — One person was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck on Route 28 in Buffalo Township, Butler County. Police said the wreck happened when a car struck a tractor-trailer driven by Royce Ellsworth, 39, of Bernie, Mo.The driver of the car fled the scene, leaving behind the car and his passenger, Shannon L. Ortmann. 31, of Manorville. Ortmann, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury. Police did not immediately identify the driver of the car.
