Butler wrestling goes 5-0 at duals

Six Butler High wrestlers went 5-0 to lead the Golden Tornado to a first-place finish at the 10-team South Side Duals on Saturday.

Conner Foust (112 pounds), Blake Caudill (120), Korey Caudill (126), Cody Houston (132), Zach Weaver (182) and Nick Gibson (195) each won all five of their matches.

Houston's effort included five pins, while Weaver tallied four pins.

As a team, Butler went 5-0. The victories came against Beaver (83-0), Ambridge (74-3), Shadyside, Ohio (58-21), Hopewell (44-30) and Greenville (39-25).

“We became more aggressive in Thursday's match against Connellsville (a 38-21 loss),” said Butler coach Scott Stoner. “To see that carry through the weekend is a really good sign.”

The First Baptist Christian School girls basketball team recently defeated Beaver County Christian, 44-35, and Community Alliance Church, 27-23, in overtime.Hannah Roth had 22 points and seven steals in the first game, 12 points in the second. Shelby Poorman and Alyssa Barnhart combined for 13 steals in the first game, Lydia Roth scored nine in the second.The FBC boys suffered a 59-44 loss to Calvary Baptist Academy despite 13 points from Brent Block and 12 from Josh Drake. Matt Cumberland had seven rebounds, Paul Drake five assists.
