Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has awarded undergraduate fall research fellowships to the following area students:
Christopher Leasure of Freedom is studying “Effects of a Sudden Expansion in a Circular Duct with Air Flow.”
Andrew Opalewski of Slippery Rock is studying “Effects of Electric Current on Penetration Depth and Weld Quality in Friction Stir Welding.”
Alyson Eagle of Harmony is studying “Reducing Trauma Associated with Peer Mistreatment.”
Phillip Kristufek of Butler is studying “Investigation of Blocked Constructions for Binary Error-Correcting Codes.”
Seneca Valley choirs win in Fla.
The Seneca Valley School District Choral program earned many awards during the Spring Competition trip held in Orlando, Fla.
The Madrigal Singers, concert choir ensemble, men’s choir, girls’ choir, eighth grade choir and show choir each received a superior rating, which is the highest rating possible during competition.
The Madrigal Singers also received a First Place Golden Mickey award within the Specialty Choirs Division, placing them as the top specialty choir out of the nineteen choirs in attendance.
The show choir ensemble also earned a second place for all choirs within their division and the eighth grade choir received a Silver Mickey award.

Fae Gibson of Venango Township has been selected as a 2012-13 Pittsburgh Schweitzer Fellows.
He is a student at Chatham University, studying physical therapy.
He will work to improve the health and well-being of greater Pittsburgh’s LGBT and HIV/AIDS population, focusing on stress management and preventative wellness with breathing and rhythmic movements, called Qigong, as an adjunct to receiving mental health care.
The program aims to encourage the participants to be engaged with their health and empower them to enhance their adaptability in stressful situations.
Gibson is a licensed massage therapist who works with his mother Elizabeth Gibson at Simple Balance Acupuncture and Massage Therapy in Butler.

Bryan Vavro of Butler was named to the President’s List at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

Kathleen Davis of Grove City is one of 80 Emerging Leaders at The University of Akron who will plan, organize and implement campus activities for residence hall students, attend conferences and take a special class to practice their leadership skills.
