Mars grad paces GCC to 47-10 win

Mars graduate Shane Kaclik ran for a career-high 153 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries to lead the Grove City College football team to a 47-10 victory over visiting Anderson (Ind.) Saturday.

The Wolverines (1-1) compiled 451 yards of total offense — including 291 rushing yards — and 32 first downs.

Grove City produced six touchdown drives of at least nine plays.

Brian Pell completed 16 of 27 attempts for 144 yards, while senior Dustin Anewalt (Seneca Valley) caught six passes for 76 yards. Nine different receivers caught at least one pass for Grove City.

Grove City will visit Washington & Jefferson on Saturday.

At the Tony Banner Invitational at Clarion University, SRU began its day with a five set, come-from- behind win over Fairmont State followed by a 3-1 loss to American International.The first match of the day featured two coaches with 500 wins or more. The Rock's Laurie Lokash and Fairmont State's Larry Hill faced each other for the 19th time Saturday and are ranked 10th and ninth respectively in victories among active Division II coaches.The Rock jumped out in the first set 25-18, but Fairmont State took the next two sets 25-18 and 25-21. Slippery Rock battled back in the fourth, 25-10, and held on to win 15-13.The final match of the tournament for SRU came against American International and it was the first meeting ever between the two squads. Slippery Rock dug itself a hole, losing the first two sets of the match 25-21 and 25-20. The Rock came back in the third set taking it 25-19, but AIC closed out the match with a 25-21 win.

Brandon Chiu, Max Aronica, Thad Madzelonka and Stephen Donnelly each recorded a goal as The Rock (2-0-2) blanked Alderson-Broaddus.

Lucy Hannon had one goal and two assists and Alexandra Brosky and Shelby Ward also scored to lift The Rock to a 3-0 victory over the University of Charleston.SRU (3-0) has not allowed a goal so far this season. Dana O'Neill made five saves for the win.

Allison Shade's goal off a rebound from Ally Banks gave The Rock a 1-0 triumph over Lindenwood.Courtney Lee made two saves for SRU, who are 3-0 for the first time since 1995.
