Butler Twp Police2:28 p.m. Tuesday — Fred Smith, 59, of Butler was hurt when the car he was driving rear-ended a sport utility vehicle on Route 356 at Moraine Pointe Plaza. Smith suffered a minor head injury. Police cited Smith for driving at an unsafe speed. Kristina Cherry, 59, of Pleasantville, Venango County, was driving the SUV.
State Police, Butler4:10 p.m. Thursday — Bruce Hufnagle, 51, of Parker was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 68 in Donegal Township.3:38 p.m. Thursday — Two people were hurt when a sport utility vehicle driven by a 16-year-old Parker girl and a car driven by Raymond A. Somerville, 86, of East Butler collided on Chicora Road just east of Catalpa Road in Donegal Township. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and suffered minor injuries.The girl, who police did not identify, was cited for improperly entering a road.Wednesday — District Judge Lewis Stoughton issued an arrest warrant for Christopher L. Matthews, 30, of Summit Township on charges that he stole his former girlfriend’s pickup truck from her home on Sunbury Street in Fairview.The pickup owner, Mary Ann Davis, told police that Matthews took the vehicle, valued at $15,000, on Aug. 16, according to court documents. She said she sent him several text messages, telling him to return the truck, but to no avail.Police charged Matthews with a felony count of theft as well as unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving with a suspended license.Wednesday — A number of unspecified items were stolen from a vehicle parked at a home on Moose Road in Connoquenessing Township The theft happened between Monday and Wednesday.Wednesday — Someone broke into an abandoned mobile home on Maple Manor in Brady Township. No property was taken in the break-in between Monday and Wednesday.Monday — A suspected burglar, who police did not identify, stole property valued at more than $3,150 from a home on Woodchuck Road in Connoquenessing Township. The break-in between Aug. 6 and Monday also caused $350 in damages to the home.Police said some of the stolen property, worth $525, was recovered Tuesday from a store in Butler Township.Monday — A Hi-Point 9 mm pistol was reported stolen from a home on West Liberty Road in West Liberty. The gun, valued at $150, was taken between Aug. 17 and Monday.
State Police, Kittanning7 p.m. Wednesday — Nicolaus A. Haney, 27, of Adrian was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs at Montgomery Drive and Cherry Orchard Lane in East Franklin Township.4:42 p.m. Wednesday — Margaret D. Daniels, 39, of Worthington was hurt when a sport utility vehicle struck the car she was driving on Main Street in Wayne Township. Daniels, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to ACMH in Kittanning with minor injuries.The SUV driver, Tammy Jo Wheeler, 43, of Creekside, Indiana County, according to a police report, was cited for a stop sign violation.
State Police, Mercer12:21 a.m. today — A Canadian couple were seriously injured when their motorcycle crashed on Interstate 79 in Springfield Township.Police said Ian M. Creed, 48, of Toronto lost control of the cycle when its rear tire went flat. Moments later, the bike rolled over and slid about 300 feet, stopping in the grass median.Creed ended up next to the cycle. Julie M. Creed, 50, a passenger, ended in the middle of the road. Both were wearing helmets.Medical helicopters flew both riders to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio; their conditions were not known this morning.
