Friday — Police filed a felony theft case against Barbara Strange, 68, of Grove City, accusing her of defrauding a woman in Florida of $24,300 in July. The alleged fraud, according to a police report, involved other people in Jamaica.The alleged victim “was tricked into thinking she had won the lottery and needed to send money to cover the taxes,” the report said.A preliminary hearing for Strange will be held Sept. 26 at the office of District Judge Neil McEwen.
Tuesday — Police filed drug-related and other charges against Ethan M. Beahm, 20, of Evans City stemming from a 4:15 p.m. July 31 traffic stop on Interstate 79 at the Slippery Rock exit in Worth Township. He allegedly was found with marijuana and other contraband.He is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, underage drinking, following too closely to another vehicle, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.11:13 p.m. Monday — Bruce Moody, 55, of Saxonburg was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after he crashed on Saxonburg Road in Jefferson Township.8:55 p.m. Monday — Freddie Lee Bauer, 52, was arrested after he allegedly attacked his wife with a sword during a domestic dispute at their home on Josh Lynn Drive in Prospect. Police said Bauer held the sword to 57-year-old Geraldine Bauer's neck.The altercation left the woman with a small cut on her chest, according to a police report.Bauer was arraigned on charges of simple assault, harassment, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $3,000 bail.1:50 a.m. Aug. 15 — A pickup driven by Matthew D. Dipner, 28, of New Castle struck a utility pole along Route 38 in Concord Township. The truck then struck a post holding three mailboxes before spinning around and hitting a tree. Police said Dipner was cited for a lane violation.
11:18 p.m. Sunday — Kurt A. Zacherl, 21, of Emlenton was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his pickup truck struck a cement barrier at Routes 208 and 38 in Salem Township. Zacherl, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries.Thursday — An unidentified green vehicle struck several road signs and mailboxes along Curlsville Road in Toby Township. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 814-226-1710.
8 p.m. Sunday — An unknown burglar broke into a home in the 500 block of Stoneboro Road in Wolf Creek Township. No property was taken.5:50 p.m. Sunday — Four people were hurt in a two-car collision at Route 19 and Creek Road in Springfield Township.The crash happened when a sport utility vehicle driven by David W. Griffin, 61, of Ontario, Canada, collided with a pickup truck driven by Jacob S. Yoder 58, of Volant.Kyung-Hun Griffin, 59, and Christine E. Griffin, 20, both of Ontario, passengers in the SUV, were taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries; both were wearing seat belts.A 15-year-old girl and 7-year-old girl, both of Volant, who were riding in the pickup, also suffered minor injuries but did not need hospital treatment. Both were wearing seat belts.Police said David Griffin was cited for making an improper left turn.9:48 p.m. Saturday — Robert C. Evans, 41, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his car got stuck in a ditch on Route 173 at East Gilmore Road in Wolf Creek Township.8:03 a.m. Aug. 15 — An unidentified extended cab pickup collided with a car at Routes 208 and 19 in Springfield Township and did not stop after the crash.The suspected hit-and-run vehicle is described as a small, older model truck with faded black paint. Police said the pickup possibly has damage and green paint transfer from the car on its driver's side.Shannon L. Croteau, 44, of East Hampstead, N.H., was driving the car.7 p.m. Aug. 11 — Two unknown shoplifters made off with $2,000 in merchandise from the Banana Republic store at Premium Outlets in Springfield Township. The thieves are described as black females.2:02 a.m. Aug. 11 — A pickup driven by Jacob M. Funk, 23, of Ellwood City crashed and rolled over several times on Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township. Funk, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. Police said he was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
