12:49 p.m. Wednesday — Cars driven by Carolyn A. Honse, 73, of Butler and Pauline H. Maillet, 81, of Butler Township collided on North Main Street. Honse was cited for careless driving.6:27 p.m. Aug. 1 — Two 15-year-old boys were seen allegedly smoking marijuana at Ritts Park. The boys, who police did not identify, are charged in juvenile court with possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Wednesday — Several solar lights were stolen from a woman's lawn in the 400 block of Woodland Avenue. The theft happened between the evening hours of Tuesday and 11 a.m. Wednesday.3 p.m. Monday — An oversized load tore down the traffic signals, pedestrian crossing signals, power lines and utility poles at North Broad and Lincoln streets. The cost of repairs was not immediately available but is expected to be “high,” according to a police report.Police said drivers and pedestrians should be aware of temporary signs until permanent electronic traffic control devices can be installed.
Monday — Police filed drunken driving and a list of traffic violations against William P. Kennihan II, 34, of Butler stemming from a crash about 2 a.m. July 15 at Route 138 and McGregor Road in Clay Township.The wreck happened when Kennihan lost control of his sport utility vehicle and hit a traffic sign, embankment and tree.Police suspect he called a friend after the crash and got a ride to her home before police found the wreckage. Afterward, he called 911 to report his vehicle had been stolen, police said.Police said they spoke with him about 3:20 a.m. that day at the friend's home. He eventually admitted he had been at several bars that night, documents said.Kennihan is charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, a lane violation, driving at an unsafe speed, abandoning a vehicle on a road, careless driving, hit-and-run, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, making false reports and not wearing a seat belt.
3:35 p.m. Tuesday — Five people were hurt in a two-car crash at Route 128 and Streightif Road in North Buffalo Township. The crash happened when a car driven by Christian Eckman, 18, of Ford City rear-ended the other car driven by Robert Johns, 38, of Cadogan.Both drivers and three children, ages 7, 13, and 15, in Johns' car all suffered minor injuries. Those injured, who were wearing seat belts, were treated at ACMH Hospital in Kittanning. Eckman faces a ticket for careless driving.9:10 p.m. Monday — A woman and two young children from Butler County were hurt when a car they were riding in struck a deer on Route 422 at the Route 28 interchange in East Franklin Township.Treated at ACMH Hospital in Kittanning for minor injuries were 30-year-old Laurie C. Smith, a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, all of Butler; and the driver, Kimberly A. Hull, 55, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
