Wine shops coming

Harmony gets 2 new businesses

HARMONY — Two new businesses are set to open June 1 downtown. They are a wine shop and a gifts and collectibles shop next door.

Bottles and Barrels will open at 253 Mercer St. in “The Center of Harmony” along with Rustic Acres Winery, which will open next door.

The businesses will be operated by Michael Omstead and his fiancée Heather Simmons.

The couple told Harmony council Tuesday night that Bottles and Barrels will offer a selection of items designed around wine such as wine accessories, home making kits for wine, beer home-brew kits, gift baskets, prepackaged cheeses and wine tasting and making classes.

“We look forward to sharing the rich history that Harmony has to offer as well as the friendly and diverse culture,” said Omstead.

“Having both grown up here, we believe our store will offer another exciting attraction to bring more tourism to the area.”

Rustic Acres has been providing wines to the Butler County area since 2004.

Chief Vinteer Gary Matson started making wine as a hobby more than two decades ago and now it is a full-time job.

Omstead Tuesday night discussed the new Rustic Acres planned in Harmony. It will be next to the Bottles and Barrels that will be managed by Simmons.

Olmstead said the store will offer a variety of Rustic Acres wines.
