Reott, Antal make states in 2 events

ERIE — Slippery Rock High School swimmers Kelsey Reott and Katie Antal both placed second in a pair of individual events at the District 10 Class AA Championships, held Friday and Saturday at Penn State-Behrend.

Reott finished runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Antal was second in the 200 individual medley and the breaststroke event.

For their efforts, Reott and Antal will swim their respective strokes at the PIAA meet later this month.

Also qualifying for the state event was Grove City's Lauren Decker (butterfly) on the girls' side; Slippery Rock's Brandon Bridges (500 freestyle) and Grove City's Eric Schmidt (200 IM) on the boys' side.

Following are the Slippery Rock and Grove City swimmers who earned a medal (top three relays, top six individuals) at the District 10 Class AA Championship Meet. Swimmers who automatically qualified for the upcoming state meet appear in bold.

200 individual medley:

50 freestyle: 4-Matyi Kovacs (SR) 22.92

100 backstroke: 6-Eric Schmidt (GC) 57.58

Grove City's Wes Phipps earned his third career Northwestern Region Class AA title with a pin of Kyle Mariacher at the 3:47 mark of the 182-pound championship match.Phipps (36-0) now moves on to the PIAA Class AA Tournament beginning March 8.Jesse Rivera took fourth in the 120-pound bracket after a 1-0 loss to Brookville's Dalton Zimmerman in the third-place final, but only the top-three finishers advanced to states.
