CRANBERRY TWP — The township planning staff continues to work through land development issues for the new Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School on Route 228.

At the planning advisory commission’s workshop meeting Monday, the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s architects presented scaled down plans, which includes eliminating a stadium and several areas that were not classrooms.

The township staff will recommend delaying a vote on the plans so that those changes on the 71 acre project can be studied.

The advisory planning commission will continue its review and offer suggestions at next Monday’s meeting.

Ron Henshaw, Cranberry director of community development, said he plans to talk with Seven Fields officials about the project. He also said he will talk with some residents near the project in Seven Fields about their traffic concerns for the new road that will access the school.

The developers are presenting different options for the alignment of a new school road that would connect at the intersection with Franklin Road and connect with Old Mars Crider Road.

The township supervisors in early February gave approvals to the grading of the property to prepare for construction.

The new North Catholic high school is projected to hold more than 1,000 students.

Officials anticipate the total project will cost $62 million to $67 million, and at least $46 million will be construction costs.

The diocese hopes to have the school open for the 2013-14 school year, but would need to begin construction this spring for that to happen.
