Butler bowlers place in WPIBL

Butler High School's girls and boys varsity bowling teams finished second and fifth, respectively, in the WPIBL league playoffs recently.

The girls finished second to Hempfield in the 16-team tournament, their highest finish in three years. Autumn Hepler rolled a 613 series, including games of 184, 183 and 246. Brea Suchonic had a 539 series with games of 170, 199 and 170.

Kelly Bintrim rolled a 196 and 172, Nicole Balk a 173 and Megan Paul 168 for the Butler girls.

The team will next compete in the Western Pa. regional March 10 in North Versailles. The Lady Tornado regional team consists of captain Suchonic, Paul, Balk, Bintrim, Hepler, Heather Paul and Mikayla White.

The six Butler girls qualifying for singles regional competition are seniors Balk and Heather Paul, juniors Suchonic and Hepler, sophomore Bintrim and freshman Megan Paul.

Butler's boys' fifth-place finish was buoyed by Jacob Cookson's 622 series (224-189-209) and Brandt Fleming's 603 (219-179-205). Braedyn Troyan had games of 191 and 204, Garrett Sexton a 191.

Sexton and Cookson will compete in individual regional action March 9 in North Versailles. Butler's boys regional team is captained by Fleming and includes Sexton, Matthew Blose, Cody Rosenbauer, Cookson, Troyan and Zack Sexton.
