The Barrs in 1961

James and Adella Barr of Mars celebrated 50 years of marriage with a family and friends dinner Nov. 11 at the Springfield Grille in Cranberry Township.

Barr married the former Adella Moore on Nov. 11, 1961, at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Evans City.

They have five children, James Barr Jr. of Lexington, South Carolina, David Barr of Export, Michael Barr of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Garry Barr of Mars and Dr. Maryanne Houghton of Virginia Beach, Virginia. They also have three grandchildren.

Barr is retired from Vesuvius. He is a member of Mars Alliance Church and volunteers for the Evans City Food Cupboard.

Mrs. Barr was a paraprofessional for Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, working with autistic children. She is a member of St. Matthias Church and is a eucharistic minister. She volunteers for the perogie makers and nut roll fundraisers.
