Mary S. Prokopchak
Mary S. Prokopchak, 96, of Kingwood, Texas, formerly of Butler, died early Tuesday morning at Kingwood Medical Center.
She was born in Butler, July 16, 1915, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Guzan Secunda.
A homemaker, Mary had also worked for more than 16 years in nursing department patient care at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center, now the VA Butler Healthcare, until retiring in 1981.
She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora and a charter member of the Women's Club of St. John's and a member of the G.C.U.
Mary was the widow of Michael Prokopchak. They married June 2, 1940, and he died Jan. 4, 1965. Additionally she was preceded in death by five brothers, Stephen, Joseph, John, William and Al Secunda; and two sisters, Elizabeth Secunda and Helen Mellos.
Surviving are two children and their spouses, Maria (Michael) Streitman, with whom she had made her home in Kingwood, Texas, and Daniel (Tanya) Prokopchak in Euclid, Ohio; a brother, Paul Secunda of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
<B>PROKOPCHAK</B> — Friends of Mary S. Prokopchak, who died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, will be received at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 3 until 5 p.m. Friday. A funeral liturgy of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora. The Rev. Robert Oravetz, pastor, will officiate.
