Students recognized for activities

BUTLER TWP — Students in the Butler School District have been recognized for their extracurricular activities.

• The Western Pennsylvania chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals has selected Emily Brittain School to receive the 2011 National Philanthropy Day Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy award, Nov. 17 at the Sheraton Station Square, Pittsburgh.

About 300 students raised $6,156 during their Hop for Leukemia event April 20, for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The activity was dedicated to Trystan Irwin, a 6-year-old former kindergarten student at the school who successfully finished his leukemia treatment, and now is being home-schooled.

• The senior high school Girls Ensemble has been selected to perform at a 2012 Pennsylvania Music Educators’ Association conference, April 20 at the Lancaster County Convention Center, Lancaster. Nearly 100 singing groups auditioned to perform.
