Luring case leads to arrest

Police: Man sought sex with girl

A Butler County man will face trial on charges he assumed phony online identities of a 15-year-old and a 40-something-year-old in hopes of luring a girl into having sex.

The 14-year-old victim sent nude photographs of herself to the suspect, investigators said, and twice agreed to meet him for a sexual encounter.

But both planned meetings this summer narrowly fell though, according to court documents.

William R. Ainsworth, 52, of Adams Township was arrested last week at the girl's house in Mars where state agents and borough police had set up a sting with the help of the child's parents.

Ainsworth on Tuesday waived his preliminary hearing in Evans City on a list of felony charges in the case. He is in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 cash bail.

Investigators with the state Attorney General's child predator unit said the defendant, since 2010, had been using a younger persona named “Anthony” to solicit nude photos from girls.

He would then allegedly introduce them to another alias, “Glenn,” an adult man.

Ainsworth, who is married, admitted he created the Facebook account for “Anthony” as a way “to live out his fantasy of who he wanted to be as a teenager,” charging documents said.

“Glenn's” account was his attempt to portray a strong adult male, investigators said.

“(The defendant) stated he believed that he was not a strong adult male,” documents said.

The 14-year-old Mars girl told authorities that “Anthony” in January “friended” her online. He claimed he lived in a beach house in Florida with other surfers.

According to “Anthony,” both his parents were in jail on drug-related charges and he had dropped out of school.

In May or June, upon “Anthony's” request, the girl e-mailed six sexually explicit photos of herself.

Around July, “Anthony” told the child that he had met “Glenn,” who was from Pittsburgh and liked young girls.

“Anthony explained that he ‘hooked-up' Glenn with some young girls from Florida (for sex),” agents said.

The defendant, allegedly using his younger online persona, suggested the girl have sex with “Glenn.”

The child initially declined but later agreed, agents said, and began communicating online with the suspect's older persona.

“Glenn” told the girl he owned a car dealership and drove a gold colored car.

In August, the girl said she arranged to meet “Glenn” near her home for sex.

But at the last minute, she had second thoughts and did not go through with the encounter.

“However,” documents said, “she watched from her home as a gold colored car drove back and forth in front of her residence” close to where they had planned to meet.

That same month, a second meeting was arranged. But about the time of that planned encounter, the girl said her cousin came to visit and she had to help search for a neighbor's runaway dog.

The meeting with “Glenn” never occurred, agents said. but like the first time, the girl reported seeing the same gold colored car as before driving up and down her street.

The girl's parents eventually discovered her online communications with the defendant's younger persona, and notified authorities.

On Sept. 22, Ainsworth was the one lured to the girl's house, investigators said, and arrested.

He is charged with unlawful contact with a child, soliciting a child, criminal use of a communication facility and disseminating obscene and sexual materials.
