The McCandlesses in 1961

Robert and Shirley McCandless celebrated 50 years of marriage with a family and friends dinner and dance Sept. 16 at the East Butler Fire Hall and with family in Alaska.

McCandless married the former Shirley Kline on Sept. 16, 1961, at the Center Avenue Free Methodist Church.

They have one son, Robert McCandless II of Renfrew.

McCandless is retired from the masonry department at Armco. He enjoys golfing and bowling.

Mrs. McCandless was a homemaker. She was a member of the Tamarack Lake Cloggers section of Oneida Valley Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoys family activities and traveling.

The McCandlesses are members of Community Alliance Church and the Butler Two Steppers Club.

They enjoy cruising and camping.
