Hannah Beck of East Brady is one of 135 college students honored as Newman Civic Fellows by Campus Compact, a national coalition of more than 1,100 college and university presidents.The award acknowledges student leaders with the ability and motivation to create change in their communities.She is a sophomore hospitality management major at Mercyhurst College.Beck is Mercyhurst’s Green Team vice president and founder and president of Garden Gurus, a student club devoted to enterprise at the Mercyhurst West campus farm. She also plans to institute a recycling program this summer in East Brady.———

Tiffany Keffalas, 16, of Butler will be honored by the Westmoreland Choral Society’s Young Artists Vocal Competition.She is one of four winners in the Western Pennsylvania vocal competition. She performed an Italian aria called “O Cessante Di Piagarmi” at Seton Hill University’s Performing Arts Center in Greensburg.Keffalas is a junior at Butler High School.———

Ann Bartman of Butler was one of 19 recipients of Gannon University’s Archbishop John Mark Gannon Award, presented to the students with the highest grade point averages upon graduation.Bartman and the other recipients were recognized for having 4.0 grade point averages.She is the daughter of Mark and Nancy Bartman and is a graduate of Portersville Christian School.She graduated with a bachelor’s in occupational therapy.———Two Butler County Community College students were awarded bachelor’s degrees May 8 from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio.
