Ronald J. Eckstein, 83, of Renfrew passed away Tuesday evening in UPMC Passavant hospital, McCandless Township.

Born Aug. 20, 1927, in Wilkinsburg, he was the son of the late Stuart and Elizabeth Gunther Eckstein.

Mr. Eckstein was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Evans City, where he was a church elder.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II.

He was a self-employed carpenter.

He was proud of the train display he built and used for 50 years in his home and which now can be seen at Christmas in the Harmony Museum. He enjoyed gardening and had raised goats. His favorite time was in his hot tub and swimming pool. He loved baseball.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lyda Lee Yobp Eckstein, on Jan. 12, 1974; and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Idamarie Miller Eckstein, who he married Aug. 11, 1974; one daughter, Danielle Kennedy of Bridgeville; seven sons, Dennis (Sherri) of Evans City, Paul of Renfrew, Daryl (Debbie) and Richard, both of Butler, Timothy (Rebekah) of Atlanta, Ga., Todd (Joy) of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Ames at home; two brothers, Theodore (Helaine) of Florida and Homer (Jean) of Harmony; one sister, Ruth Cavalarro of Georgia; his mother-in-law, Edith Yobp of Creighton; and 10 grandchildren.

<B>ECKSTEIN</B> — Relatives and friends of Ronald J. Eckstein, who died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home</B>, 328 W. Main St., Evans City. Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Westminster United Presbyterian Church.The family suggests memorial donations be made to Westminster U.P. Church, Box 207, Evans City, PA 16033; Camp Lambec/Westminster Highlands, 220 Center St., Slippery Rock, PA 16057; or Historic Harmony P.O.
