Butler Police11:20 a.m. Thursday — Jamie D. Howell, 42, of Butler was arrested after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, 35-year-old Julie A. Steffy of Butler, during a domestic dispute at South Chestnut and Race streets.Thursday — Police reportedly charged a 12-year-old boy with trying to twice choke the principal at Butler Junior High School on East North Street last week.Later, while police were talking to the child, he tried to disarm an officer, according to a police report. The boy, who was not identify, was immediately handcuffed. He is charged in juvenile court with aggravated assault on a school employee.Thursday — Delmar E. Silk, 52, of Butler allegedly pushed a 29-year-old woman against the wall of a Mackey Avenue apartment overnight. He is also accused of punching a border collie there. Silk is charged with simple assault, harassment and cruelty to animals.Monday — Four clerks and the stores where they work were cited for selling to underage customers during tobacco compliance checks by police and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.In all, 14 stores were targeted in the sting. The stores that did not pass the tobacco checks were Friedman’s on West Brady Street; Cigarette Shoppe on West Jefferson Street; Honey Bear on East Jefferson Street; and Kmart in Pullman Square.
Butler Twp PoliceThursday — Police reported they are seeking the unknown driver of an orange car that struck a pedestrian on North Main Street near Beech Road on Tuesday night, and did not stop.The victim, John Briney Jr., no age given, of Butler was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for undisclosed injuries.Police said Briney about 10:30 p.m. was apparently struck with the car’s passenger side mirror, which broke off. Anyone with information about the unidentified orange car that is missing a passenger side mirror, is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.3:50 p.m. Wednesday — Jermey M. Jones, 28, and Daniella M. Logsdon, 25, both of North Carolina were arrested after they were caught allegedly shoplifting at the Wal-Mart in Butler Commons. Both suspects, police said, are charged with retail theft, conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia. Logsdon, who allegedly lied about her name, also is charged with false identification to law enforcement authorities.1:55 a.m. Wednesday — Nicholas Defelice, 19, of Lyndora allegedly stole golf clubs and golf accessories from an unspecified building on Chesapeake Street. He is charged with theft, receiving stolen property and defiant trespass.
State Police, Butler12:31 p.m. Thursday — A pickup driven by Rachel Gresley, 22, of Sharon, Mercer County, struck a guardrail on Interstate 79 in Worth Township, after the truck lost one of its front tires.6:40 p.m. Tuesday — Robin W. Dittmer, 49, of Fenelton was hurt when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on Old Route 422, a little east of McShane Road in Clearfield Township.Dittmer, who was not wearing a helmet, was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries.Tuesday — The Pennsylvania license plate XN79930 was stolen from a trailer at a Basswood Road home in Fairview Township. The plate was taken between May 6 and Tuesday.
State Police, Clarion5:50 p.m. Sunday — Four people were hurt when a pickup truck driven by Richard C. Kline, 76, and a sport utility vehicle driven by Marvin L. Gibson Jr., 51, both of Knox, collided at Twin Church Road and Route 338 in Beaver Township.Gibson and three of his passengers, all from Parker, were taken to area hospitals with minor or unknown injuries. The passengers were Marilyn L. Bowser, 61; Loren Bowser, 66; and April M. Gibson, 43.All occupants in both vehicles were wearing seat belts. Police said Kline was cited for a stop sign violation.
State Police, MercerMonday — Two safes filled with family photos, personal documents and other valuables were among numerous property items stolen in a burglary at a home on Cranberry Road in Pine Township.Some other items taken in the break-in between 9:05 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. were several pieces of jewelry, a digital camera, power tools and hand tools and a humidor containing cigars.Anyone with information is asked to call 724-662-6162.
