NEW CUYAMA, Calif. — Two California high schools combined for a record 95 runs Tuesday when Cuyama Valley scored 13 times in the seventh inning to earn a dramatic 48-47 victory against Coast Union in a fast-pitch softball game.

The previous mark was established when East Machias Washington Academy in Massachusetts beat Lubec 88-6 in 1983.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Bill Lennox Track Complex at Slippery Rock University will play host to the PSAC Track and Field Championships this weekend.Events will run Thursday through Saturday. Two-time defending champion Shippensburg is favored to win the men's title. No. 12 Shippensburg, No. 16 SRU and No. 25 East Stroudsburg are favored on the women's side.Events run from 10 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. until the 4:20 p.m. awards ceremony Saturday.There is no admission charge Thursday. Admission charge Friday and Saturday is $7.

Slippery Rock University's Matt Howard and Ryan Ogelsby were named PSAC West Baseball Player and Freshman of the Year, respectively.Howard is batting .389 with a .638 slugging percentage, a .469 on-base percentage, 58 hits and 95 total bases.Ogelsby is 4-2 with a 1.84 ERA with seven saves. He has allowed 18 hits in 29.1 innings with seven runs allowed and a WHIP of 0.78.Other first-team selections in baseball include SRU first baseman Derek DiRuscia (1B) and California (Pa.) starting pitcher Eric Aschley (Seneca Valley).Second-team selections include SRU starting pitchers Zach Jeney and Lou Trivino and California (Pa.) third baseman Aaron Ordy (Butler).In softball, Grove City College third baseman Amanda Sheppeck (Knoch) and utility player Lauren Pennell (Seneca Valley) were both second-team choices.
