Rich fans 8 as KC rolls

Breezzie Rich struck out eight in just five innings of work as the Karns City softball team routed Venango Catholic 14-0 Thursday afternoon.

Brooke Hiles had a triple and Cianca Everetts, Kate Williams, Ashlyn Landgraf and Jensen Bachman all had doubles in the victory.

It was just the second game for Karns City this season.

In other action:

• Codi Reed hit a solo home run for Knoch (1-1) in a 9-1 loss to Hampton.

• Melea Mauthe, Stephanie Kotomski and Courtney Bell all had doubles for Slippery Rock, but the Rockets (0-3) could not overcome seven errors in the field in a 10-2 loss to Mercer.

• Clare Galabinski had the only two hits for Mars (0-6) in a 7-1 loss against Valley.

• In a game that was started last week and finished Thursday, Amanda Skidmore collected three hits, including a home run, but Butler dropped a 6-5 decision to North Hills.

• Freeport banged out 24 hits in a 20-7 win over West Shamokin.

Alyssa Meda went 5-for-6 with two doubles, three singles, four RBI and four runs scored for the Yellowjackets.

Butler's Will Nesbitt advanced to today's Section 2-AAA title match by defeating Seneca Valley's Troy Abbott 10-1 and Pine-Richland's JiHo Park 6-2, 6-2.Nesbitt will face P-R's Bas Van Lent in the championship match.Zac McCafferty, also of Butler, will battle for the third and final spot in the WPIAL singles tournament when he faces Park in the consolation match.McCafferty on Thursday defeated Shaler's Stephen Kimpel 10-1 and SV's Jonathan Perkins 10-8 before falling to Van Lent in the semifinals 6-4, 6-2.
